Love Songs for Bill 1983

I came across a tape of love songs that Leslie recorded for me for Valemtines Day in 1983. Nine months later, our first daughter, Emily, was born. Les was 31 years old, at the time.

 Marie – Randy Newman

 Willow – Joan Armatrading

Younger Than Springtime – Rogers and Hammerstein

My Funny Valentine – Rogers and Hart

  1. Just learned last night about Leslie’s final struggle with cancer- I am so sorry for your loss. I have a cassette of a few of her songs that she sent me years and years ago when we reconnected. Leslie and I shared the rollercoaster existence of late-60s rebellious time-warp at Northfield School. We were in the same dorm and made “broccoli for 30” together. She was one of the few who was not terrified by our kitchen supervisor, a woman who was later locked up, I am sure.

I still have her LP from back then, safely pressed within a handful of private-label, small run labors of love. I just played your link to “The Marriage” and the first few notes came back like they were a Greatest Hits item, despite not having heard it for years.

So glad to have met her as a sapling, so glad she grew to be a mighty oak.
